As a director in the State and Local Tax practice, Scott Smith leads sales and use tax services. He has more than 25 years of experience in multistate sales and use tax area and has a broad range of experience working with publicly held companies for a diverse group of industries including manufacturing and distribution, research and development, biotechnology, construction, and retail.

Experience includes providing various services to Fortune 100 and 500 clients including sales and use and property tax system implementation and compliance
Additional experience includes audit defense, reverse audits, nexus studies, taxability matrices, cost component analysis, voluntary disclosure agreements, tax planning, and consulting
Monitors sales and use tax law changes in the U.S. and drafts tax alerts for the firm
Serves as a firm resource for tax controversy
Prior to joining CohnReznick, Scott worked for two national accounting firms before becoming an indirect tax and U.S. incentives manager for a large pharmaceutical company
Further professional experience includes serving as an assistant director of sales and use and property tax for a global electronics corporation
Frequent speaker at the firm’s Financial Manager Learning Forum and Nexia SALT conferences
