As a tax director at CohnReznick, Al Lowry specializes in hedge fund, private equity, fund of fund, and management company tax consulting and compliance. In this role, he advises private and public REITs and many different types of foreign and domestic US alternative investment vehicles. He serves clients across the US as well as asset managers in the UK, Australia, Canada, and those with offices in Asia, Europe, and Latin America.

Al has had significant involvement with securities testing tools including wash sale analysis, straddle analysis, constructive sale analysis, dividend testing, MLP/PTP allocation templates, and market discount analysis on deeply distressed asset-backed products. His passion for process improvement extends to applying software developer-type knowledge from a tax perspective. This includes creating solutions in both Excel and Access using arrays, dynamic ranges, string parsing, regular expressions, web scraping, algorithms, dynamic formulaic workbook summaries, and more.

Before joining CohnReznick, Al advised clients on partnership and REIT/blocker taxation at a Big Four firm. His deep understanding of owner-operated businesses and fund structure planning is instrumental to his work with clients today.
