Richard Mahan is a partner in CohnReznick’s Bethesda office with more than 25 years of experience in private industry - serving as a vice president or controller of various corporations - and in public accounting. He is a member of the Financial Services Industry Practice where he serves a number of specialized industries including private equity funds, broker-dealers, mortgage companies, and CMBS loan servicing companies. Rich also works with renewable energy clients specific to solar, commercial real estate, construction, developers, and various affordable tax credit programs.
In addition to providing audit services, Rich consults with clients on their operational and transactional matters. He oversees the review and evaluation of internal control systems during audit planning in order to help his clients improve controls to safeguard their assets and deliver more accurate financial reporting. He also conducts detailed planning and update meetings with clients, determines audit scope and strategy, supervises and reviews all engagement team audit and tax work, identifies, resolves, and summarizes issues discovered during the course of the audit process, prepares financial statements to ensure compliance with all accounting standards, and prepares a management letter communicating any internal control or operational inefficiencies noted that would help the organization improve its financial reporting and/or operational functions. Rich also has involvement in deal structuring and workout engagements.
