Ted Gunther leads CohnReznick's Renewable Energy Industry practice in the Northeast and has 20 years of public accounting experience focused in the power & utility industry with a specialization in renewable energy. Ted has led the integrated audit of several diversified Fortune 500 power & utility companies and has led the financial statement audit of renewable energy companies, funds, and projects across all major segments of the industry. He also brings in-depth technical and SEC financial reporting experience.
Ted spent two years in a Big 4 national office where he advised power & utility clients of the accounting models and financial reporting considerations associated with complex financial instrument transactions including the accounting associated with debt and equity instruments, derivative and hedging transactions, and commodity contracts. He has authored guidance on the interpretation and implementation of accounting standards and financial reporting trends impacting power & utility companies that have been widely utilized in the industry. Ted routinely performs accounting consulting services where he advises clients on significant matters impacting renewable energy projects, such as accounting for, power purchase agreements, partnership investments, membership interest and purchase and sale agreements, financial instruments, investment tax credits, and asset retirement obligations. He also performs GAAP modeling of hypothetical liquidation at book value (HLBV) that is commonly contemplated in tax equity deal structures.
During his career, Ted has assisted companies with financial due diligence efforts associated with potential targets and has led the purchase accounting efforts of several multi-billion dollar acquisitions including transactions in the renewable energy industry. He has also led the historical carve out financial statement audits of multiple renewable energy project financing transactions where he has assisted companies with the complexities of SEC reporting and technical accounting positions.
