Steven D. Schwartz, CPA, is a partner with CohnReznick, leads the Healthcare Industry Practice in our New York offices, and is a member of the Firm’s Not-for-Profit and Education Industry Practice. With 22 years of experience in the healthcare field, Steve concentrates his practice on serving FQHCs. His clients include community/migrant health centers, behavioral healthcare organizations, foster care agencies, health homes, homeless programs, HIV programs, drug treatment programs, prepaid health service plans, adult day care centers, and other not-for-profit organizations and for-profit corporations.
Steve performs auditing, accounting, and management advisory services for clients. Steve has extensive knowledge in Government Auditing Standards and Federal Single Audit under the Uniform Guidance (formerly OMB Circular A-133). His responsibilities include the planning, coordination, and review of accounting and auditing engagements; the preparation and review of financial statements and tax returns; and the presentation of audited financial statements and reports to client management and their organizations’ governing boards. He also supervises and reviews the preparation of client cost reports, which include Medicare, Medicaid and other client financial reports required by the Department of Health & Human Services, such as the Federal Financial Report (FFR) and Uniform Data System (UDS) filings.
Steve lectures on financial topics of note within the industry and provides board trainings on various financial topics pertaining to the healthcare industry. Steve also provides in-house training on various tax, audit and regulatory topics, including “Overview of the Medicare Cost Report,” for the California Primary Care Association and Bi-State Primary Care Association; “Financial Operations Management Training,” for the National Association of Community Health Centers conference; “Advanced Financial Status Report (FSR) Issues,” for the National Association of Community Health Centers webcast; and “New Auditing Standards,” for a Georgia Primary Care Association annual conference.He is licensed as a CPA in New York; Florida; and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
