Managing Principal - Baltimore
Ira Weinstein is a managing principal in CohnReznick’s Baltimore office. In addition to his local duties he leads the firm’s national efforts in the Cannabis industry which includes oversight and strategy related to the consulting, audit and tax services the firm provides to plant-touching and ancillary businesses. Ira is also a subject matter expert and part of firm leadership on Opportunity Zones, a recent economic development provision passed as part of the Tax Cut and Jobs Act. The firm provides technical, transaction advisory and entity formation services related to this new provision.
In terms of client interaction, Ira is focused on strategic advisory services to clients in support of their vision for growth and enhanced enterprise value. He also provides project finance and consulting services to help clients efficiently finance assets that contribute to strategic objectives. Ira has historically focused on areas of the public-private partnership, specifically leveraging government programs to accomplish the project finance goals of his client base. Such programs include the federal and state New Markets Tax Credit Programs, the federal and state historic tax credit programs, renewable energy tax credits for investment and production, and the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit.
Various local and state programs, including tax increment financing, are also part of the services provided. He provides analysis, structuring recommendations, and supports transaction negotiations for project sponsors, developers, investors, syndicators, and other intermediaries.
Ira speaks at conferences and seminars nationwide. Prior to joining CohnReznick, he advised local economic development organizations on strategies to revitalize their geographic footprint. Before that, he spent several years in the corporate finance department of a public company raising capital for corporate and project finance and completing acquisitions and divestitures of company assets.
