Nicholas S. Mathias (“Nic”), CPA, is a partner in CohnReznick’s Charlotte office and a member of the firm’s Assurance Practice. He has over 18 years of experience with the firm. In that time, his focus has been on audit and attestation services. Nic has concentrated on real estate tax incentivised real estate projects, renewable energy, housing authority, and not-for-profit clients. These services include financial statement audits, agreed-upon procedures, and the evaluation of internal controls, as well as keeping clients updated on industry and government required standards.

At CohnReznick, Nic is responsible for working closely with audit associates in order to train and complete a detailed review of their performance to assure that their time on the engagement is used efficiently. In addition, Nic strongly values his relationship with the client to see that the audit moves smoothly and the client is satisfied with the work completed. He has served both as a team contributor and team/engagement leader, managing over 200 audits and 20 staff members.

Nic has extensive experience in evaluating and understanding complex ownership structures associated with his real estate and renewable energy practice. He has expertise with principals of consolidation, lease accounting, contract revenue recognition under GAAP and other complex accounting concepts. Some of Nic’s representative clients include Mercy Housing, Inc., Lendlease Corporation, Macquarie Corporate and Asset Finance, Fortistar, LLC and Ecoplexus, Inc.
