Brian Gibney is a director in CohnReznick’s Tax Practice specializing in corporate tax. Based in the Bethesda office, he is one of the leading transaction attorneys in the nation specializing in tax-free reorganizations, taxable acquisitions and dispositions, spin-offs, and internal restructurings. Additionally, he has extensive experience in cross-border transactions involving Section 367 and Section 7874.

At CohnReznick, Brian is focused on tax structuring for companies in all industries served by the Firm. He is a frequent speaker at internal conferences and for events held by the Tax Executives Institute and various professional organizations. He has been published in leading industry publications such as Taxes Magazine, Journal of Taxation, and Commercial Law Journal.

Prior to joining CohnReznick, Brian was a partner in the national tax department at a Big 4 firm for 24 years. He served as a subject matter expert in the transaction advisory services group and focused on analyzing, structuring, and characterizing multi-step corporate transactions involving U.S. and foreign corporations. Brian initiated and led a monthly cross-border M&A call for the Firm’s internal network which discussed developments, planning, and international tax strategies. He also served as an independent reviewer in the M&A area of third party opinions. Brian began his career at the Internal Revenue Service where he was an attorney in the Corporate Reorganization Branch.
