J.H. Cohn Hosts Second Annual “Position Your Company for a Liquidity Event”

With leverage returning to the market, private equity and corporate investments in middle-market companies continue to trend upward. Despite ongoing fundraising challenges faced by some investment groups, there is still plenty of "dry powder" available, and the demand for small and mid-sized owner/operator companies has never been greater.

On May 3, J.H. Cohn hosted "Position Your Company for a Liquidity Event" at the Union League Club in New York City. At the event, J.H. Cohn led investment banking and private equity professionals in panel discussions designed to help companies position themselves for maximum valuation in today's market.

Steve Mayer, CPA, regional managing partner - New York, kicked off the event with an overview of the liquidity market. Partners Lou Pizzileo, CPA, Gary Levy, CPA, and Christopher Aroh, CPA, moderated three panels: Panel One: "Using Investment Banks to Help Raise Liquidity," Panel Two: "Structuring Successful Private Equity Deals," and Panel Three: "Leadership Perspective on Maximizing Liquidity and Value," respectively.

Panelists included experts in investment banking and private equity as well as business owners and company CEOs who have experienced successful liquidity events. The panelists were:

Panel One: Geoff Flynn, managing director, Cowen and Company; Murray Huneke, managing director and head of consumer investment banking, Piper Jaffray; and Matthew Kelly, partner and managing director, North Point Advisors.

Panel Two: Robert Landis, partner, The Riverside Company; Richard Leonard, Angelo, Gordon & Company; and Jonathan Owsley, partner, Catterton Partners.

Panel Three: Mark Fasciano, managing director, Canrock Ventures; Andy Pforzheimer, chief executive officer, Barteca Restaurants; and Marc Sculler, chief executive officer, Bell'O International.

Guests included owners of apparel, hospitality, manufacturing and distribution, retail, and technology and life science companies. They experienced a frank discussion and Q&A designed to educate owners on how they can position their companies for a successful liquidity event.
